ENERGY DIALOGUE 

“STATE OF ENERGY INDUSTRY AND ITS FUTURE”

 

On November 17, 2020, the USRCC held the Energy Dialogue titled “State of Energy Industry and Its Future.” 
 
The Energy Dialogue was moderated by John W. Gibson, President and CEO of Flotek Industries, Former Chairman of Energy Technology at Tudor, Pickering, Holt & Company and Honorary Consul of Kazakhstan.
 
The following executives participated in the Energy Dialogue:
 
  • Mark A. Gyetvay, Chief Financial Officer and Deputy Chairman of the Management Board, PAO NOVATEK;
  • Cederic Cremers, Executive Vice President and Country Chair – Russia, Shell;
  • Sandy Esslemont, President and Chief Executive Officer, Parker Drilling Company; and
  • Matthew J. Sagers, Executive Director, Oil and Gas, IHS Markit.
 
The panelists discussed several topics, including, global LNG demand, energy sustainability, energy affordability and security, energy transition, OPEC+, and the future of the Oil and Gas industry.
 
Lively discussion among the panelists also centered around the following:
  • What can make energy industry stronger?
  • What will be the growth rate of alternative energy sources? 
  • How to bring investors back into upstream?
 
Over 120 registrants participated in a well moderated Q&A session. Webinar: 4th Logistics, Transportation and Customs Conference “Projects During COVID-19: Challenges and Opportunities”

On October 2, 2020, the USRCC hosted its 4th Logistics, Transportation and Customs Conference “Projects During COVID-19: Challenges and Opportunities” in the webinar format. Over 110 registrants were engaged in this event, which covered logistics, transportation, and customs issues during COVID-19 as well as sanctions, industry response to current challenges and future outlook. 
 
The following speakers covered these topics and shared their experience with attendees: John A. Moseley, Chief Commercial Officer, Port Houston; Rick Shannon, Member of the Board of Directors, Atlantic Ro-Ro Carriers, Inc.; Eileen Albanese, Director of National Security and Technology Transfer Controls, Bureau of Industry and Security, U.S. Department of Commerce; Nikolai Belikov, Operations Director, “NEK” JSC; Anton Posner, Chief Executive Officer, The Mercury Group.
 
John Moseley provided participants with Port Houston prospective and COVID-19 impact and emphasized continuous growth of the U.S.-Russia trade. Rick Shannon shared Atlantic Ro-Ro Carriers experience of 25 years in being a leading U.S.-Russia shipping company and addressed COVID-19 related shipping challenges. Eileen Albanese updated audience on the 2020 U.S. sanctions on Russia. Nikolai Belikov made a detailed presentation about Eurasian Economic Union challenges and opportunities, and Anton Posner addressed dry bulk trade and freight related issues.
 
The Conference ended with a lively Q&A session moderated by U.S.-Russia Chamber of Commerce. The attendees presented questions about import and export opportunities, trade blockchain implementation, U.S. sanctions and export compliance challenges, as well as U.S.-Russia trade outlook and top trading commodities with Russia and Eurasian Union customs, compliance and trading realities.
 
The event received very good feedback from the attendees reflecting on the coverage of all logistics and customs questions and COVID-19 impact on transportation and high caliber of the speakers and presentations.

The webinar provided a macro view about doing business in the U.S.A. and in Texas in particular. Attendees received very useful information about the investment opportunities.

On July 25, 2020, the USRCC and its Technology & Innovation Committee hosted the Webinar “Digital Technology Advancements in the Aerospace Industry”. This annual event was held using the on-line platform. The following speakers provided an overview of the global situation in the aerospace industry, technology development, digital technology advancement, and covered other important questions that industry leaders are currently facing: Nathan Holyoak, Senior Principle Engineer of Northrop Grumman; Dr. Michel Izygon, CTO of Tietronix; Rick Murphy, Senior Vice President of Saratech; Fedor Antonov, CEO of Anisoprint. Topics covered during the Webinar included “Latest news in Aerospace Industry”, “AR/VR Advances in Aerospace Application”, “AI Applications in Aerospace”, “Extracting Value from Product Lifecycle Management (Digital) Deployment” and “Advances in 3D Printing”.

Speakers discussed business opportunities between the State of Texas and the Urals Region.
The USRCC and the U.S. Commercial Service joint Virtual Trade Mission and Business Dialogue (the “VTM”) is a reliable and convenient alternative to in-person trade missions. By organizing VTM, USRCC is building efficient interaction between the U.S. and Russia business communities. VTM provided USRCC members and partners with a unique opportunity for business introduction, presentations, and connections in a particular region that they may be interested in doing business. 
Honorable John J. Sullivan was nominated as the U.S. Ambassador to the Russian Federation by President Donald J. Trump on October 11, 2019; confirmed by the Senate on December 12, 2019; and sworn in by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on December 23, 2019. Ambassador Sullivan previously served as Deputy Secretary of State from May 24, 2017, until December 21, 2019. He served as acting Secretary of State from April 1 to April 26, 2018. 
 
Prior to joining the Department of State, Ambassador Sullivan was a partner in Mayer Brown LLP, and co-chair of the law firm’s national security practice. From 2010 to 2016, he was the Chairman of the U.S.-Iraq Business Dialogue, a governmental advisory committee on United States economic relations with Iraq.

His Excellency Anatoly I. Antonov was appointed Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the United States of America and Permanent Observer of the Russian Federation to the Organization of American States in Washington, D.C., by the Executive Order of Vladimir Putin on August 21, 2017.
 
Previously, Ambassador Antonov served as Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister from 2016 to 2017, Deputy Defense Minister from 2011 to 2016, Director of the Department of Security and Disarmament of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2014 to 2011, Ambassador-at-Large of Russia’s MFA from 2002 to 2004.

On June 25, 2020, the USRCC and its Young Professionals Committee hosted the 4th Annual Senior Executive Knowledge Sharing Series Live Webinar with William Marsh, Chief Legal Officer & Board Member, Baker Hughes.
 
This annual event was held using the on-line platform.  During the webinar Mr. Marsh addressed the new ways of doing business, future of the work place, business risks and opportunities in oil and gas industry, and the strategies to build a successful career.  About 30-40 attendees were able to get engaged in a lively Q&A session moderated by Ilya Aranovich, Young Professionals Committee Chair.

Will Marsh was the Chief Legal Officer at Baker Hughes since the merger of Baker Hughes with the GE Oil & Gas business in 2017 through April 2020.  Prior to his that, Marsh served as Vice President and General Counsel of Baker Hughes Incorporated starting in February 2013.

Marsh joined Baker Hughes in 1998 and has served in various executive, legal, compliance and corporate roles, including Vice President of Legal, Western Hemisphere from May 2009 to February 2013 and Director of Enterprise Risk Strategies from March 2006 to May 2009. As Director of Enterprise Risk Strategies, he designed and implemented Baker Hughes’ Enterprise Risk Management program to assist in strategic planning and the Board’s oversight of risks.

Marsh is currently a member of the BJ Services Board of Directors and was formerly a member of the Board of Directors of Peoples Utah Bancorp.

The U.S.-Russia Chamber of Commerce held “The 3d Annual Young Professionals Speed Mentoring Session & Networking Event”.

 

Speed Mentoring is a great opportunity for young professionals ages 21-40 to get advice from a number of experienced professionals in the most time-efficient manner. 

The attendees had a chance to get an objective analysis of their professional strengths and weaknesses, to ask questions outside their current employment, to build connections and to get insight into the industry of their interests or a career changes.

Doing Business with Russia: Risks and Rewards

The U.S. – Russia Chamber of Commerce 

in partnership with the U.S. Commercial Service held the business seminar

“Doing Business with Russia: Risks and Rewards”

Over 1,000 American firms of all sizes continue to do business in Russia, including Boeing, GE, United Technologies, Honeywell, 3M, John Deere, Procter & Gamble, ExxonMobil, Chevron, and others. Hundreds of Houston based companies are engaged with Russian businesses.

Houston is responsible for 20 percent of the overall U.S.-Russia trade. In addition to the energy sector, several other industries hold considerable opportunities for US companies in Russia, including agriculture, chemicals, IT, machinery, healthcare, and metals. During the seminar, participants were provided with an overview of the current business climate in Russia and the available resources to assist them.
